As of March 31, 2025, the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3: Reconsider Travel advisory for several West African nations due to various security concerns. Guinea-Bissau has been assigned this level, indicating significant risks that warrant caution.

According to the State Department, the country has reportedly experienced political instability for years, and protests have devolved into violence.

If Americans travel abroad to Guinea-Bissau, the U.S. government cannot provide consular services within the country, and emergency services are limited because there is no U.S. Embassy in Guinea-Bissau.

Additionally, countries such as Burkina Faso and Mali are under a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory because of heightened threats like terrorism, crime, and kidnapping.

It’s important to note that travel advisories can change rapidly due to evolving situations.

Therefore, it’s advisable to consult the U.S. Department of State’s official website for the most current information before planning any travel.
