Indore, India – A 37-year-old Nigerian man, Jacob Nnabuike Ugwu, has been arrested by the Indore Crime Branch for allegedly operating a sophisticated inter-state drug trafficking network across India.

The suspect was apprehended in the Krishna Puri area of Delhi, where he had been living under the cover of running a small refreshment shop. Authorities say Ugwu played a central role in the distribution of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a synthetic drug popularly known as ecstasy, to multiple Indian states.

The bust followed the earlier arrest of two Indian nationals—Hariom Jha and Lakshya Singh Rajput—who were found in possession of 36 grams of MDMA, a Tata Altroz vehicle, and multiple mobile phones. During interrogation, the duo named Ugwu as their supplier, prompting a wider investigation.

Acting on intelligence, a special team tracked and arrested Ugwu, who is now in police custody. Authorities are probing the extent of his distribution network, including potential international links and financial transactions behind the drug operations.

The case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Law enforcement agencies, including Delhi Police and central narcotics units, are collaborating to trace the drug’s source and dismantle the wider trafficking ring.
