A tragic incident occurred on March 27, 2025, when the tourist submarine “Sindbad” sank off the coast of Hurghada, Egypt, resulting in the deaths of six Russian tourists, including two children. The vessel was carrying 45 tourists from Russia, India, Norway, and Sweden, along with five Egyptian crew members. Of the 39 survivors, 29 sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that water began flooding the submarine through open hatches during boarding, leading to its rapid descent. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the sinking.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety standards of maritime tourism in the Red Sea, a region that has experienced several boating accidents and shark attacks in recent years.

Egyptian authorities are expected to review and enhance safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.
