Khartoum: The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have successfully recaptured the presidential palace in Khartoum from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a significant milestone in the nearly two-year civil conflict.

This victory is emblematic, as the palace has been a central point of contention since the conflict’s onset in April 2023, when the RSF seized control of key locations in the capital, including the palace itself.

The conflict has resulted in extensive human suffering, with over 28,000 fatalities and millions displaced, leading to what the United Nations describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

Despite this strategic gain, the RSF remains entrenched in various regions, notably Darfur, indicating that the path to comprehensive peace and stability in Sudan remains complex and challenging.
