Unstoppable Falcons: Nigeria Stuns Host Morocco to Clinch Historic 10th WAFCON Title

iNewsAfrica | Sports Desk | July 26,2025

Rabat, Morocco — In a thrilling final that gripped the continent, Nigeria’s Super Falcons mounted a stunning comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2 and claim their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
The Olympic Stadium in Rabat was electrified as over 20,000 fans witnessed a dramatic night of football brilliance. Morocco raced to a two-goal lead within 25 minutes, with Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy delivering early blows that seemed to deflate Nigerian hopes.
But the Super Falcons, true to their legendary resilience, launched a second-half fightback that will be remembered for generations.
Esther Okoronkwo ignited the revival with a composed penalty in the 64th minute. Moments later, Folashade Ijamilusi leveled the score, silencing the home crowd and tilting momentum back in Nigeria’s favor. Then, in the 88th minute, Jennifer Echegini, fresh off the bench, slotted in the winning goal — sealing Nigeria’s return to continental dominance.
“We came here to complete Mission X — and we did it with heart,” said Nigeria’s coach, Justin Madugu. “This team showed Africa what true champions are made of.”

This victory marks Nigeria’s first WAFCON triumph since 2018, reaffirming their status as queens of African football. The dramatic win also sets the tone for Nigeria’s preparations ahead of the 2026 Olympic qualifiers and reinforces their bid as Africa’s fiercest footballing powerhouse.
The win sends a powerful message across the continent: The Falcons may fall, but they always rise higher.
