Dodoma: Tanzania has completed the building of East Africa’s longest bridge. The landmark 3.2 km structure spans Lake Victoria in the country’s Mwanza region.

Magufuli Bridge has been named after late President John Magafuli, who initiated the project before his death in 2021. It represents a significant infrastructure achievement for the nation.

It is an important infrastructure accomplishment for the country.

According to the African Travel & Tourism Association, the bridge spans the Sengerema and Misungwi regions.

China Railway and China Civil Construction Group, both Chinese companies, built the bridge.

The Tanzanian government provided all funding for the project, which got underway in December 2019 but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is among the ten longest bridges in Africa and the only extra-long cable-stayed bridge in the Lake Victoria region.

The striking building is an essential transportation link between Tanzania and its neighbors, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda.
