On March 27, 2025, Somalia received a significant shipment of military equipment from the African Union (AU), aimed at enhancing the nation’s security infrastructure and promoting regional stability. The consignment includes armored vehicles, helmets, vests, an armored personnel carrier, fuel and water tankers, engines, medical supplies, and other essential resources.
The handover ceremony took place at the AU Continental Logistics Base in Douala, Cameroon, where Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, H.E. Amb. Abdullahi Mohamed Warfa, received the equipment.
This delivery underscores the AU’s ongoing commitment to supporting Somalia’s efforts in strengthening regional security, advancing institutional development, and combating terrorism. It also reaffirms the shared dedication to fostering long-term stability, resilience, and progress across the continent.

The arrival of this equipment aligns with the recent deployment of the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which officially commenced operations on January 1, 2025, succeeding the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). AUSSOM aims to further bolster Somalia’s security capabilities and facilitate the transition towards full security self-reliance.
This development represents a pivotal step in enhancing Somalia’s security infrastructure, contributing to broader regional stability, and supporting ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and promote peace within the nation and the Horn of Africa.
