Raining fish is a fascinating phenomenon triggered by waterspouts that lift small marine life. The rare event has been reported in Iran amid heavy rainfall in the Yasuj area on Monday. Videos of the occurrence are doing rounds on social media and have left users intrigued.
The video opens with several fish falling from the sky amid cars passing by. The man—who is filming the ‘rain of fish’—can be seen jumping with joy. Sharing the video, X user Mario Nawfal wrote, “The unusual phenomenon is believed to have been caused by a tornado scooping the fish up from the sea and throwing them into the sky, where they later rained down.”
Another user shared the same video and wrote, “Suddenly…it rained fish in Iran. This came after rain fell in the Iranian city of Yasuj, followed by sudden fish falling on residents who were in the streets of the city. The reason is not yet known.”
With over 2.2 million views on X, the video racked up several reactions. A user joked, “Instead of raining missiles, looks like Israel sent the fish.” Another user wrote, “The ocean has provided the people of Iran with dinner tonight.”
“Or the someone known as the Fisherman is sending Iran a message…..he’s coming,” a third user reacted.
According to Iran International, heavy rainfall triggered a flood-like situation across 21 regions in the country. The Meteorological Organization of Iran warned of a new wave of precipitation starting Sunday and spreading to other areas. One of the hardest-hit regions is Shabestar county in East Azerbaijan.
