Paris 2024: Nigeria’s mixed relay team out in spite of setting new record

August 03, 2024
Nigeria’s mixed 4×400 relay team did not qualify for the finals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the athletics event.
The quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli, and Patience Okon-George finished fourth with a new national record time of 3:11.99.
Ojeli took the opening leg and ran with so much power and heart handing the baton to Imaobong, the National Sports Festival 400m Champion who ran the second leg, with Nigeria looking to have been in a good position to qualify for the final.
Although they fell short of advancing to the final, the team put up a valiant effort against strong competitors, including Great Britain, who won with a national record time of 3:10.61.
The Netherlands and Italy took second and third places, respectively, with times of 3:10.81 and 3:11.59.
