At the recent launch of former Nigerian President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s autobiography, “A Journey in Service,” prominent Nigerian business leaders pledged substantial donations totaling approximately N17.5 billion to support the development of the IBB Presidential Library.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, announced a commitment of N8 billion to be disbursed as N2 billion annually over the next four years. He attributed his business success to Babangida’s economic reforms, particularly the abolition of import licenses in 1986, which he believes catalyzed private sector growth in Nigeria.

Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, pledged N5 billion to the project. In his remarks, Babangida commended Rabiu for his early and unwavering support, emphasizing its critical role in advancing the library’s vision.

Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, founder of the TY Danjuma Foundation, contributed N3 billion.

Business mogul Arthur Eze also supported the initiative with a donation of N500 million.

The IBB Presidential Library is envisioned as a national institution dedicated to preserving Nigeria’s political, military, and cultural history, particularly focusing on the leadership and governance during Babangida’s eight-year tenure. Once completed, it will be the second presidential library in Nigeria, following the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.

This significant financial backing from Nigeria’s business elite underscores a collective commitment to documenting and preserving the nation’s historical legacy for future generations.
