Abuja, Nigeria – On Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Liberal Progressive and Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) issued a firm demand for institutional reform, challenging both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary to uphold their constitutional duties or face grassroots pressure for change.
At the online forum titled “Deepening Democracy in Nigeria,” stakeholders from across the country convened to present a unified front for electoral transformation.
Chief Sola Ebiseni, Secretary General of Afenifere and a respected elder statesman, set the tone:
“Democracy built on fraudulent elections is not democracy at all. The Nigerian people deserve a credible process.”
Prof. Sam Amadi, policy thought leader and former NERC chairman, warned:
“Without judicial credibility, elections become legalized coups. Time-bound rulings and integrity enforcement are essential.”
Hon. Jonathan Asake, former 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Kaduna State, delivered a passionate appeal:
“What we witnessed in 2023 should never repeat. The time has come to reset Nigeria’s democracy—peacefully, legally, and decisively.”
Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, LPPMC’s National Coordinator and Chief Host, underscored the group’s expectations:
“We have drawn the line. INEC and the courts must reform by August—or lose legitimacy in the eyes of the Nigerian people.”
LPPMC’s Core Reform Agenda
Electoral Commission (INEC):
-
Biometric Voter Register Audit to remove fake or duplicate entries.
-
Blockchain-Based Voting System for transparent, tamper-proof balloting.
-
Live-Streamed Vote Collation from all centers nationwide.
-
August 30 Deadline for cleaning up the voter register.
-
September 12 Kickoff for a national civic education campaign.
Judiciary:
-
90-Day Constitutional Deadline for resolving all electoral petitions.
-
Accountability for judicial complicity in upholding fraudulent results.
-
Public Tribunal Access to increase trust and transparency.
Civic Engagement and Structural Reform
The event also marked the launch of the “37-State Coalition for Electoral Integrity,” a new national network mobilizing citizens, civil society organizations, and reform advocates to monitor electoral processes and demand policy implementation at all levels.
Additionally, LPPMC renewed its constitutional push for rotational presidency—balancing leadership between North and South, Christians and Muslims—to promote unity and fairness.
In closing, Dr. Okundaye delivered a decisive statement:
“This is not a conference of complaints—it’s a call to conscience. If democracy must be saved, the people must rise, speak, and restructure the future.”
